When should you convert multiple BOQ items to a single schedule activity?
When should you convert multiple BOQ items to a single schedule activity?
In project scheduling, not every Bill of Quantities (BOQ) item needs its own activity. Some items can be grouped into one.
Take block work as an example: different thicknesses, fire ratings, or types (hollow, AAC, internal, external) all share the same unit of measure and similar productivity. Instead of creating separate activities for each, we combine them into a single activity - Block Work for the Fifth Floor.
This many‑to‑one method streamlines the schedule, avoids redundancy, and ensures an appropriate level of detail in the schedule.
The schedule shouldn't list every BOQ item or site task. It’s about grouping logically to balance a sufficient level of detail with clarity.
